Help Finding the Right Camcorder (Video Camera)?
I would like to know if anyone can recommend a model (any brand) that has all of the features I list. Many have some of these features, but I can’t find any that contain all.
I’m looking for:
Media Type: Hi8, MiniDV, or DVD (No hard drive or flash memory)
Zoom: 20x Optical (or higher)
LCD: No touch screens.
Internet: Ability to upload video to the internet and edit in video-making software
Viewfinder: Moveable (It seems some cameras don’t have adjustable viewfinders)
Light: Light on front of camera (Seems to be absent on many modern cameras)
Other Features: - Ability to shoot in black and white. - Ability to shoot in sepia. -Nightvision / Nightshot
Hi 8 is finished, out of the last two go for mini-dv DO NOT contemplate getting a mini-dvd camcorder, quality is not that good loads of problems, yuck!!!!!!.
Its funny that the first answer says a media card camcorder, Oh well
Zoom keep it to about 20x as unless you are using a tripod there is no point.
touch screens are used in most consumer camcorders todat, although there are a few that also have controls that you can adjust via buttons.
all video can be “uploaded” once you have it on your computer.
View finder I use one all the time unless I have the camera on a tripod, and can monitor the scene.
Lights on cameras there are two schools of thought. first they use a huge amount of your camcorders power, thus reducing the filming time, I have found that the light is very harsh and can almost make your subjects appear white. they are very useful, for adding a light source if the scene is getting dark. Personally I use an external light source, with its own power supply I can angle the light so I can get soft lighting, or increase the effect by directing it towards the subject.
as for effects its better practise to add the effect when you come to edit the video then you can worry about the filming and then spend your time adding the right effect for the exact amount of time.
Sony I think have the best infrared (night shot) although the range is not very far but can be very useful
as for model you do not give any idea on your budget, but I would start to look at models starting at around 1000, maybe a little more.
